My status now I'm going to wound clinic trying to get my incision to close. In April I got staph in wound and had to have it cleaned out so it was opened up which was 3rd time same spot. Had stitches for 5 weeks and when they took them out incision just fell open. Now I have to pack it with different creams and silver, seaweed stuff. We've been trying to see if something will work. Forgot to mention I was allergic to sutures in tendon so they removed them at that time. So after 6 months 3 surgeries I have an open wound and NO REPAIR. It's going to be a long year of crutches and wheelchair.
I have read about alot of heal pain. I had plenty of it earlier but I have been using a portable ultasound unit few minutes a day on my heal, bottom of foot and calf. I has helped alot with pain and circulation. You can purchase one on few websites average 100-150$.

Well stitches didn't come out as planned, they waited another week. However it still wasn't closed and was weeping. I asked Dr to send me to wound clinic. It's been a week now with some silver looks like Spun cotton, pushed in incision, which by the way is totally open again. Looks like dr just cut me. Never dreamed I would have such Bad Luck. I'm not diabetic! Wondering if I will ever walk again. Dr says I need reconstruction surgery after they close soft tissue. It better heal quick, I don't want him cutting on me again. I now know I'm allergic to certain kinds of sutures.

Well its April 20th , I’m at 10 weeks since 2nd repair and 2 weeks since I got staph. Been wearing a wound vac since the clean out. With no sutures holding my tendon, I’m somewhat like a non op. They only thing lately is my attitude has surprising calmed. I guess it’s a reality that I still have a long way to go. That I’m in my busy season with my business. I started shopping for a Harley trike, I have come to terms that I’m never going to be able to hold my my 800lb Harley. With trike I’ll still have that freedom of open road without the fear of reinjury.

Going back to Doc next tues, hoping to get rid of this vac I’m carrying around. Maybe slowly I’ll get into boot with heel lifts.  Here's to another weekend cooped up. Movies maybe?

My injury started August 2011 pulled achilles throwing leg over husbands bike getting in captain seat on back.Normally ride my own and its lower so theres no strain. Sept 2011 visit family Doc he did Thompson test still was good so he said don't let it stiffen up on you do light stretches. Worse advice I know now. Should went into a boot for few weeks none off this mess would have happened.
Well rode to North GA for Rally Sept then Destin In Oct 2011. Pulled couple more times Thought I was being nice to ride with husband few short trips round town. Well be Nov 2011 couldn't walk had surgery Thanksgiving eve had 4 days to rest. Quietest holiday ever. Well everything was on sched of healing and I thought I was heading for PT on week 10 Feb 2011 and got out of boot after 3 weeks started on my own, not realizing how long this recovery takes. I didn’t use a heal lift which I will be doing after boot this time also. Well Doc said its broke again, so back to surgery Feb 5. 2012
No walking without boot this go around. I miss riding my softail too much.

As far as taking a good shower, I bought a shower chair, and cast cover $12. from drug store, works great, especially with a hand held shower head. I also have a wheel chair for car, scooter chair for inside house, and of course crutches and covers. I work from home so I live in scooter. If you have Ins. have Dr call you in a wheelchair script. I asked for an ultra lite one and my grand daughter could lift in and out of my car so we could xmas shop.
Well now I’m on week 5 and the 2nd cast, getting another one and moving the toes up on Thurs. I saw a few of you are getting in pools to exercise. I did that on the first round (before re-rupture) after 6 weeks of casts started getting wet and after a couple times the incision started opening. Had to stop that and go on antibiotics and back to gerri strips. Doc said skin is like a sponge having been dry for so long.
Boy is this getting OLD! 52yr old using a wheelchair. Going to be a long spring. Bike is getting lonely in the garage:(
Wish I could have some positive news, unfortunately I’ve had another set back. The last 3 cast changes I have been draining. So Dr applied silver nitrate, 8 days later things were a mess and infected. So takes me to surgery right then to clean up mess, while he was in there he removed ALL of my STITCHES and closed it up. Which means I have had 2 repairs for nothing. I could have went non op and been walking by now for sure. Now Dr. says we have decision to make after incision heals. I DON’T THINK SO! My body does not like foreign matter in it, keeps trying to push everything out. Not sure whats next except keep from getting STAPH. Anyone have any suggestions? All i know know is I’m partially healed inside and No inner stitches and incision that won’t heal.
Well its April 10th saw Doc and wound vac people confirmed I had staph Now I have a splint like after surgery with a wound vac attached, which woke me up beeping with a seal leak. I’m ABout to loose it…My patience is gone. If I didn’t stay busy with home business with phone ringing and people coming in all time, don’t know if I can take it anymore. Then this AM my husband takes his Harley to work, So Very depressed.. I can’t even call in SICK, have no one to call but myself. I’m 52, not in the best athletic shape like a lot of you, All of you that run and ski you know what its like to be out and Free, wind in face. Thats whats its like to ride my Harley, just easier on my back.
